I spend a lot of time on pistol ranges. Several times a day I see the same scene play out. Someone comes in the door and wants to shoot. When questioned, they freely admit that they have never shot a pistol before and most have not had formal training with any kind of firearm. Many times they will have already acquired a pistol and ammunition and sometimes they are in possession of a Georgia Weapons Carry License.
These folks have jumped into armed self-defense without having done their homework. We have developed a course more as a public service than for any other reason with a goal of educating responsible adults in what it takes to be armed for self-defense and competent with their chosen firearm.
We call the course Should I or Shouldn't I. It was developed specifically for people who are considering armed self defense but
have not yet thought through what it takes to do that. It is a three hour non-shooting class which brings into focus a variety of issues that should be considered before committing to being armed to protect one's self and loved ones.
WE OFFER THIS COURSE AT NO COST If you represent a group of at least ten people (neighborhood association, social
club, senior group) who would be interested in attending this class AND you can provide:
1. a venue to seat the number of people attending the class and 2. power for my laptop and projector.
then you can request this presentation free of
charge. Call at (404)519-4331 or contact us at, Contact to coordinate the logistics.
The course addresses the following questions:
a. Do I think I am capable of shooting someone in self defense? b. Under what circumstances would I be willing to shoot? c. Have I really thought about safe storage of firearms and ammunition? d. To carry or not to carry (implications, licensing process). e. Have I considered how being armed for self defense may change my lifestyle. f. Have I considered what type of firearm I would be comfortable with? Where to buy and where not to buy it? g. Do I understand the cost of purchasing and safely storing a firearm. h. Have I thought about where I might be taught about shooting and gun safety? i. Have I thought about where I might be taught about armed self-defense? j. Have I considered the cost of firearms accessories (holsters, laser grips, safety gear)? k. Do I understand the cost of maintaining proficiency (ammunition, range time, targets)?
Much
of the material that will be addressed in this class is covered in
considerably more detail in the NRA courses but this class is NOT an NRA certified course.
